A man wanted in New Jersey since 1998 was arrested after he was caught speeding in Wildwood.
Melvin Francis Mejia, 53, of Ocala, was driving a silver Toyota RAV4 at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday traveling eastbound on County Road 44A when he was caught on radar traveling at 54 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
During the subsequent traffic stop, the deputy learned that a warrant had been issued on Feb. 9, 1998 out of Atlantic County, N.J. charging Mejia with failure to appear in court on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.
