A new report claims that Academy Sports and Outdoors sold hundreds of guns to illegal straw purchasers from 2020 to 2023, feeding a firearms black market in the Northeast.
The report by Everytown Law, the litigation arm of gun violence prevention organization Everytown, claims that the Katy-based retailer ignored clear warning signs when selling to straw purchasers. Some of the illegally purchased guns were recovered in connection with shootings and in the possession of convicted felons, according to the report.
