Cleveland police officer shoots man while responding to reported domestic violence call

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are investigating after an officer shot a man while responding to a reported domestic violence situation early Saturday morning.

According to a press release from the Cleveland Division of Police, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Fourth District officers were called to a house on Lipton Avenue for a domestic violence situation and were later told that the “involved subject” was outside the residence in a vehicle. The release states the caller informed police that the subject, a 33-year-old man, had a firearm and had “threatened ‘suicide by cop’ (Engaging the officers to force them to shoot him).'”

Police say officers arrived and were “confronted with the male holding a firearm.” After officers verbally commanded that the man drop the gun, police allege he raised the weapon and pointed it at officers…
