‘OPD rendered no aid’: Marvin Boomer’s loved ones slam police and CHP in legal filing

Oakland police allegedly “abandoned” the “bleeding and disoriented” survivor of a high-speed collision last year, providing her no medical assistance as her boyfriend lay dead on the sidewalk, according to a legal claim filed by an attorney representing the woman and the deceased man’s estate.

Ta Ta Neshe “Nina” Woodruff and Marvin Boomer were taking an evening stroll on May 28, 2025, near their home in East Oakland, when Eric Hernandez Garcia lost control of his car, spun out of control, and crashed into a fire hydrant. The hydrant was sheared from its base and flung into Boomer, killing him instantly. His last act was to try to protect Woodruff. She was thrown to the ground and sustained a fractured arm and other serious injuries.

Michelle Bernard, an attorney assisting Woodruff and Boomer’s estate, has accused the city of Oakland in a 33-page legal filing of negligence because of how OPD officers responded to the scene of the crash, and for road conditions. The California Highway Patrol, according to Bernard, also failed to consider the riskiness of chasing Hernandez Garcia and should have called off the pursuit…
