CARENCRO, La. (NEWS 15) — The Lafayette Parish School Board member who recently resigned after being cited for shoplifting is now in more trouble.
The Carencro Police Department reported Chad Desormeaux, 49, has been arrested on a felony theft charge. In Louisiana, a theft charge is upgraded to a felony when the value of stolen property exceeds $1,000.
Police said the store where Desormeaux is accused of shoplifting from, which resulted in the original citation, reviewed additional surveillance video of him using the self-checkout on other occasions and found more instances of him not paying for all of the items.
