New Orleans attorney asks for new trial after fraud conviction

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Attorney Vanessa Motta asked a federal judge Thursday for a new trial, saying prosecutors broke their promises and created an unfair trial that led to her fraud conviction in March.

Motta and her law firm were found guilty of fraud, obstruction and witness tampering.

The biggest issue, according to court papers, is that prosecutors threatened to bring up a murder case even though they promised not to. The judge had already decided to keep the murder case separate…
