Charges likely to be filed after driver flees stop on Sullivan’s Island, police chief says

SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — Two people were detained on Sullivan’s Island Saturday after fleeing a traffic stop, according to Police Chief Glenn Meadows.

Meadows said that officers with the Sullivan’s Island Police Department saw a pick-up truck driving “in a reckless manner” and initiated a traffic stop, but the driver, who has not been identified, failed to stop. The driver and a passenger then fled on foot before the passenger was apprehended outside of Poe’s Tavern and the driver was detained following a K-9 search, the chief said.

SIPD’s investigation is ongoing and charges will likely be filed against both people, Meadows added. No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident…
