Hillsborough County inmates death under investigation

TAMPA, Florida — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at Falkenburg Road Jail.

Nathan Holmberg, a 34-year-old inmate, was found unresponsive by staff on March 30, 2026, and later pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital on April 3, 2026, at 10:14 p.m. Preliminary findings suggest Holmberg died by suicide, according to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The Medical Examiner’s Office is currently determining the official cause of death.

Holmberg had been in custody since March 25, 2026, facing charges including two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation and two counts of Promotion of a Sexual Performance by a Child. These charges were part of a broader investigation originating in Hernando County, which uncovered evidence on a cellular device linked to offenses in Hillsborough County dating back to 2018.
