VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A boater was found dead after Virginia Beach Police and Virginia Beach Fire conducted a search near the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Sunday morning, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
The departments searched for the boater in the 4000 block of Sandpiper Road.
10 On Your Side was at the scene Sunday morning on Sandpiper Road. Units from the following organizations were on the scene:
- The Virginia Beach Police Department
- The Virginia Beach Fire Department
- Virginia Beach EMS
- Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad
- The Port of Virginia Regional Command
Some were positioned near the refuge’s parking lot. A helicopter seen in the direction of False Cape State Park suggests more organizations were assisting in the search.
