Virginia Zoo mourns loss of cheetah Lima after health decline

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Zoo announced that Lima, its sole female cheetah, was humanely euthanized Sunday, following a year of declining health, according to a Facebook post.

Lima was 8 years old.

The decision was difficult after Lima’s quality of life continued to decrease. She had extensive diagnostics and treatments from the care and veterinary teams.

The AZA states that the median life expectancy for cheetahs is 12.1 years. With Lima living to be almost 9 years old, she had a variety of health issues over her life span…
