Villager with history of kleptomania found guilty in shoplifting case

A Villager with a history of kleptomania has been found guilty in a shoplifting case.

Tracey Ann Chartier, 57, of the Village of Monarch Grove, was found guilty this past month on a theft charge in Sumter County Court. She has been placed on probation and has already completed a theft awareness course as part of her sentence.

Chartier stole $600 worth of bracelets from Kylie’s Closet at Brownwood on Jan. 26, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Chartier allegedly slipped the merchandise into her purse. While she was in the store, she mentioned to an employee that she worked at Spartina 449, also at Brownwood. She bragged about wearing clothes from the store and said she only had to work three days a week.

After the theft was discovered, a manager from Kylie’s took surveillance photos to Spartina 449 where Chartier was identified by a manager…
