Rep. Greg Vital passes ‘no surprise billing’ law for ambulance services

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Tennessee House of Representatives passed legislation to protect patients from unexpected ambulance bills and emergency medical services.

House Bill 1061, supported by Rep. Greg Vital, (R-Harrison), prohibits out-of-network ambulance providers from charging patients the remaining balance for services covered by their health insurance plan.

Patients cannot chose providers when they call 911 for an ambulance, and providers cannot select which insurance network to join for emergencies, leaving patients to pay the difference…
