Special Touch Bakery, famed for its pies, buys bakery known for its cannoli

Special Touch Bakery, a not-for-profit commercial bakery known for its pies, has acquired Lanovara Specialty Foods, a 100-year-old business known for its cannoli.

Special Touch Bakery provides employment opportunities to people of all abilities. Its famed pies originated as a vocational training activity in a classroom at the School of the Holy Childhood in Henrietta. As the school became more proficient, it started selling them and soon they were in high demand.

When New York’s Office of People With Developmental Disabilities mandated that traditional “sheltered workshops” for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities had to end, Special Touch Bakery moved to a 20,000-square-foot facility on Mt. Read Boulevard that employs workers with and without disabilities…
