Second Grader Packs Loaded 9mm For Recess: Ohio Mom Facing Charges

School staff at Longcoy Elementary in Kent, Ohio, scrambled into lockdown mode Thursday afternoon after a second-grade student was found with a loaded 9mm handgun in their backpack. The incident, which took place around 12:30 p.m. on April 2, resulted in the arrest of the child’s mother, 34-year-old Gloria Luster.

The alarm was raised when another student spotted the weapon tucked into the 8-year-old’s waistband during recess and immediately alerted a teacher. Faculty members acted quickly to locate the child and secure the firearm before any shots were fired or injuries occurred.
