GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 2 Wants To Know investigation is uncovering safety issues at the dentist office. We’ve found the North Carolina Dental Board sent a warning to dentists about issues uncovered during recent inspections. WFMY News 2 confirmed the board sent an “urgent message” to dental offices directing providers to updated guidance on sedation practices including the role of certified registered nurse anesthetists, or CRNAs.
The memo came out in February. After local dentists passed it on to 2 Wants To Know, the board’s legal counsel confirmed the memo is real and linked it to a broader interpretive statement outlining how sedation should be handled and who is responsible when it’s used.
