Changes coming to DASH shuttle to improve service, city officials say

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) in Grand Rapids will be making some changes over the next year, with a goal of improving service and fiscal sustainability.

Starting Monday, May 4, the DASH route will be more concentrated. The bus will come every eight minutes instead of every 15, and trip times will be shorter with the smaller route. It will also travel in a one-direction loop, which officials hope will be easier to navigate.

The decision to scale back the service comes as the contracted hourly rate for DASH would rise 28% in the next year, in accordance with the city’s agreement with The Rapid. City officials said the city would not be able to sustainably budget the expense…
