KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department has announced services for Detective Mel Pierce, who passed away on Thursday, April 2, following a cancer diagnosis.
Pierce passed away Thursday morning after being diagnosed with “an aggressive form of cancer” in 2025, according to KPD. The department said Pierce was sworn in as an officer in July 1996 before he transitioned to the Investigations Bureau in the early 2000s.
KPD said the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church at 701 Merchant Drive, with the service to follow at approximately 7 p.m…
