FERGUSON, Mo. — A 13-year-old suspect is now facing serious criminal charges after a shooting near a school track meet left one teen dead and another critically injured in Ferguson, just outside St. Louis.
According to the Ferguson Police Department, the gunfire erupted shortly after 7 p.m. on March 31 in the parking lot of STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley High School, as a track and field meet was coming to an end.
Shooting Breaks Out After School Event
Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:02 p.m. and quickly found two juvenile victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as:
- A 13-year-old boy, who later died at the hospital
- A 15-year-old boy, who remains hospitalized in serious condition
The shooting occurred as students and families were leaving the event, which included participants from multiple schools.
