A community-wide effort to help those in need is stepping off on the right foot. Pastor Tom Barber with the People’s City Mission says the annual “Day Without Shoes” collection drive is now underway and the goal is to provide footwear for homeless and needy individuals.
“Last year they collected a record 50,000 pairs of shoes, it was incredible,” Barber says. “There’s so many people in our city with a need for shoes, not just for the homeless, but for other folks in our community.”
New or gently used shoes in all sizes can be dropped through April 19 at all Cornhusker Bank locations and nearly 100 other collection sites around Lincoln that have blue barrels. “We need kids shoes, we need extra large shoes, usually 13-16 sized. They are harder to come by,” Barber says…
