Tuesday snow, followed by rain and mid temps across Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa — We had a chilly start, but sunshine made it a nice Easter Sunday. Temperatures have risen well above yesterday’s. We’ll see increased cloud cover on Monday and a chilly start to the week.

Southwest Iowa will see a little light mixed precipitation on Monday. By Monday night, light snow will begin falling there, and it will gradually lift northeast into Tuesday evening. With air temperatures much of the day Tuesday above freezing and soil temperatures in the mid-40’s, I expect a lot of the snow to melt as it falls and to mainly accumulate on grassy areas.

Still, amounts of two inches are possible in spots, as shown below. It won’t be around long as temperatures rise on a breezy Wednesday.

One round of rain will move through Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Another one starts sometime Friday, and those rain chances last into Sunday. Amounts of an inch or more will be possible in some areas by Sunday.

Highs for the next six days are above, and your 7-day forecast is below. Above-average temperatures and rain chances look to continue in the extended forecast…
