Asheville Fire Department puts new tiller truck ‘Rescue 3’ into service

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A new fire truck rolling through Asheville may look like it’s making unusually sharp turns, but local fire officials are asking drivers to give it plenty of space.

The Asheville Fire Department’s new “Rescue 3” is now in service. It’s a tiller truck, meaning it has drivers steering in both the front and the back.

The truck is designed for tight maneuvering and is loaded with equipment for rescues involving people who may be trapped in crashed cars or collapsed buildings…
