My Final Four Trip Got More Expensive—But Tickets to the Game Are a (Relative) Bargain

If you are a UConn or Michigan men’s hoops fan and can get to Indianapolis in short order, I have some good news about ticket prices.

After the Huskies and Wolverines dispatched Illinois and Arizona, respectively, in their Final Four games on Saturday night, many fans of the Illini and Wildcats apparently dumped their tickets to Monday’s title game, choosing not to stick around “The Crossroads of America” to watch someone else’s team lift a championship trophy. I’m still here, having extended a trip that started last week.

Semifinal tickets were hard to come by, with precious little resale inventory for the sold-out event. Champaign, Ill., is just a two-hour drive to Indianapolis, and Illinois hadn’t made the Final Four since 2005, so thousands of orange-clad Illini fans flooded the city. Ann Arbor is a four-hour drive, and plenty of Michigan supporters in maize and blue—myself and a traveling buddy included—were also in town. Arizona, which hadn’t been to the Final Four since 2001, was well-supported, while UConn fans also had a solid presence…
