After firing over children’s book dispute, Rutherford County Library Board names new interim director candidates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Four people are on a list to become the new Rutherford County Library System interim director after its former director, Luanne James, was fired during a board meeting in late March for refusing to comply with the board’s decision to relocate 132 children’s books containing controversial material to the adult section.

During a meeting on Monday, the Rutherford County Library System board announced four people who could be the interim director.

  • David Coutcher, human resources manager
  • Elsa Britt, administrative assistant to the board
  • Cassandra Taylor, branch manager of Smyrna Public Library
  • Mindy Barrett, branch manager of Linebaugh Public Library

After the announcement, board members said they will rank the candidates and talk to them over the next couple of days to let them know their names are on the list.

One board member said she was against ranking the candidates and argued she didn’t know much about them…
