River Oaks residents raise concerns over rapidly draining pond and stream

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Residents along River Oaks Drive are raising concerns after a pond and stream on the former River Oaks Golf Club property began rapidly draining, leaving wildlife habitat at risk.

The golf club shut down in November 2025. Residents say they woke up two to three weeks ago to find a noticeable decrease in water levels, and the levels continue to drop daily.

Residents say the pond and stream were once filled with fish, turtles, and frogs. Geese, ducks, and herons used to be common features of the waterway, but residents say seeing wildlife has become rare…
