Albany man gets 24 years for armed robbery of maintenance worker

An Albany man who robbed a maintenance worker at gunpoint is headed to state prison.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Brian Briggs, 33, was sentenced to 24 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision after a jury found him guilty in February of first-degree robbery and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The robbery happened May 12, 2025, just after 2 p.m. inside 45 Central Avenue. An Albany Housing Authority maintenance worker saw Briggs arguing with his mother and tried to step in as it became physical, then Briggs pulled a loaded handgun and ordered the worker to empty his pockets…
