Knox County woman suing sheriff’s office after crash

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox County woman Jacqueline Raley is suing the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and one of its employees.

Raley said that on the morning of April 1, 2025, she was driving south on Tazewell Pike while a KCSO employee was driving north. She said the employee tried to turn left, failed to yield, and hit her SUV.

After the crash, an ambulance took Raley to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to the lawsuit. She said her injuries included “acute and chronic trauma to her head, neck, shoulder, and ribs.” This resulted in medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses, she said.

In the lawsuit, Raley accused the KCSO employee of negligence and accused the sheriff’s office of breaching its duty to ensure its employees follow rules and regulations. She is asking for $750,000 as well as discretionary costs, costs of litigation, and attorney’s fees. Raley filed the lawsuit on March 27.
