KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Following the death of a long-time Knoxville Police detective, the department is holding a procession to allow the public to pay their respects.
Mel Pierce passed away on Thursday, April 2, following a months-long battle with cancer. KPD has praised him for his courage and compassion in serving the Knoxville community for 30 years.

On Wednesday, April 8, around 12:15 p.m., KPD Motors Officers will lead a procession from Wallace Memorial to Woodlawn Cemetery at 4500 Woodlawn Pike, where the graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.
The officers will turn out of Wallace Memorial east on Merchant Drive, continue onto Cedar Lane, and turn south on Broadway Street. They will then turn onto Henley Street, then Chapman Highway, before turning onto Woodlawn Pike. The public is invited to line the route and pay their respects to Pierce.
