ANN ARBOR, MI — University of Michigan graduate student Jade Prange said she grew up in the small village of Kingsley in northern Michigan disconnected from her Native American roots.
“I was born to a Lakota mother and a white father of immigrant descent. Both lost custody of me, so I was raised by my white grandparents,” she said.
“My dad requested that his children not be raised like him as a Catholic, which they honored. They did not, however, allow me to learn any of my spiritual practices or responsibilities.”…
