Firefighter injured battling Amarillo grass fire

As grass fires raged in the area this weekend, one Amarillo firefighter received injures while fighting one on Saturday, April 4.

The Amarillo Fire Department arrived at a vegetation fire on vacant land in the 6000 block of East Interstate 40 about 1:53 p.m. Crews found an active grass fire covering approximately 20 acres, with additional burning debris. This included tires and miscellaneous materials.

AFD said units established incident command and initiated fire attack operations on multiple flanks of the fire. Crews worked to stop forward progress, extinguish burning debris and conduct mop-up operations…
