Interstate 40 shut down Monday after police chase ends in West Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Traffic on Interstate 40 was halted Monday afternoon, April 6, after a police chase ended near the Hernando de Soto Bridge in West Memphis.

A person was being transferred from the Marion Police Department (MPD) to a nearby detention center when they fought with the transporting officer, took control of a squad car, and fled the station, according to a statement from MPD.

A brief pursuit ended just west of the Hernando de Soto Bridge when an officer with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) performed a “tactical vehicle intervention” maneuver and disabled the stolen squad car. The suspect is in custody…
