Iowa City man originally charged with attempted murder convicted on a lesser charge

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An 18-year-old was found guilty by a jury of some charges in connection to a woman and three others who were injured in a shooting in Iowa City.

A jury on April 3 convicted Moayed Elsid, from Iowa City, on charges of simple assault and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was originally charged with attempted murder.

The charges stem from a shooting on August 3, 2025. Police arrived to a parking lot around 2:54 a.m. on the 600 block of East Court Street and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the stomach. She was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and three others were admitted to area hospitals soon after, according to Iowa City police…
