Man accused of killing 4-year-old and injuring wife and another child dies in MDC custody

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of killing his four-year-old child and injuring his wife and another child in the East Mountains has died while in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center. According to MDC officials, 41-year-old Luis Sanchez was found in “medical distress” on Sunday just before 6:20 p.m.

He was declared dead at 6:51 p.m. by University of New Mexico Hospital staff. They said he had committed suicide. His death is under investigation by the MDC Office of Professional Standards and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanchez was arrested in February at an RV park in Tijeras. He was accused of shooting and killing his four-year-old son, and also shooting and injuring his wife and one-year-old child…
