Erie police build on diversity efforts with hiring of 7 new officers

Erie police said they reached another milestone in building their ranks.

Mayor Daria Devlin on April 6 swore in seven new officers on the city police bureau to fill its 194-officer complement. Among those sworn in were two women and the bureau’s first Vietnamese officer.

Their additions raise to 17% the number of women and minorities in the Erie Bureau of Police, advancing efforts advocated by previous mayors and continued by Devlin to make the city’s police force more representative of the people they serve.
