Grown Here at Home: Franklin County students grow plants in simulated lunar soil for NASA challenge

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) – Students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School are growing plants in simulated lunar soil as part of a NASA experiment through the Institute of Competition Sciences Plant the Moon Challenge.

Three teams are spending eight weeks testing different methods to grow food using regolith, a material that simulates lunar soil. The national contest asks students to develop and test their own hypotheses about growing plants in moon-like conditions.
