More than 100 new homes to be added to historic San Jose skyscraper

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — The historic Bank of Italy building has defined San Jose’s skyline for nearly a century, and it is now entering a new chapter, creating more than 100 new homes.

With one swing of a sledgehammer, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan breaks open a new chapter for downtown.

The 14-story Bank of Italy has been vacant for almost a decade but is now being transformed into housing. One hundred nine families will soon have a new home in San Jose’s first skyscraper, which will also have commercial space on the ground floor…
