San Diego pair charged in fentanyl death and counterfeiting scheme

SAN DIEGO, California — A federal grand jury indictment has charged two individuals with distributing fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose of a 33-year-old resident.

Maegan Hobbs, age 31, of San Diego, California, and David Michael Richards Hansen-Taylor, age 35, of Chula Vista, California, are accused of selling the lethal dose of fentanyl in September 2024, according to court records. On September 14, 2024, Hobbs allegedly warned the victim about the drugs’ dangerous nature, messaging him to “be careful with the next stuff.” The following day, after the victim was found deceased, Hobbs reportedly messaged, “Did you feel the Fetty [fentanyl] at least?” She later agreed to sell more fentanyl to an undercover officer.

Hansen-Taylor is also charged with counterfeiting U.S. currency. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Overdose Response Team, with assistance from multiple agencies, including the San Diego Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations…
