CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A recent study out of the University of Texas Marine Science Institute is shedding light on what happens to plastics after they enter coastal waters, specifically, the chemicals they allegedly release over time.

Most people are familiar with microplastics, the tiny, often microscopic pieces of plastic debris that form as larger items break down in the ocean. But this study focuses on what is released from those materials after prolonged exposure to sunlight.
