Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday in the trial of a Lafayette man accused in the death of his niece during a shootout with police that also left an officer paralyzed. John Nicholas, 33, of Lafayette, is facing one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder stemming from the August 2023 incident.
