(NewsNation) — A hiker was hospitalized this weekend after suffering more than 100 bee stings in a rugged desert mountain area, fire officials in Phoenix said.
Emergency crews responded Saturday morning to a municipal park known as Lookout Mountain and encountered a hiker who reported being stung more than 100 times. The hiker, who was unable to continue his descent, had dangerously low blood pressure.
Paramedics administered medication and IV fluids before a helicopter lifted the man off the mountain. He was transferred to an ambulance and taken in critical condition to a hospital, the Phoenix Fire Department said.
