A deadly shooting just outside the University of Missouri–St. Louis campus shut down a stretch of Hanley Road on Monday, leaving one person dead and another critically injured, officials said. The injured person was taken into surgery while detectives and emergency crews worked the scene.
Police confirm casualties and road closure
According to First Alert 4, St. Louis County police told reporters at the scene that Hanley Road is closed between Welsberg Drive and Carson Road with no estimated time for reopening. The outlet reports that one person died at the scene and another was injured and taken into surgery.
Closure sits next to campus
The shutdown is directly adjacent to the UMSL campus, and the university’s directions page lists Hanley as a primary access route to the school, suggesting the closure could snarl commutes for students, staff and visitors. Per UMSL, University Boulevard and Hanley are close to the main campus entrance.
