ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Marzavious Thomas, 31, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for setting fire to two Rockford churches in 2022.
The U.S. Department of Justice said Thomas ignited two fires at two different churches on E. State Street on October 19, 2022, first by pouring gasoline on the doors of Bethesda Covenant Church, at 2101 E. State Street, and setting a fire.
Then, he drove to Crosspoint Church, at 3215 E. State Street, and threw a piece of concrete through the glass entry doors. Authorities said after an initial attempt to start a fire failed, he returned with a flaming object and started a fire in the entryway.
