Man sentenced for fatal Wheat Ridge DUI crash that killed mother

A 35-year-old man will spend more than a decade in prison for hitting and killing a woman while driving drunk in Wheat Ridge last year.

Jefferson County District Judge Phillip McNulty sentenced Jian Bin Chen to 12 years in prison on April 3 for the DUI crash that killed Jody Chavez in Wheat Ridge on March 13, 2025, according to a press release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
