‘Your vehicle is not a holster’: RCSD and Prisma Health giving away gun boxes and locks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — On Tuesday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Prisma Health began a series of community events aimed at keeping guns out of children’s hands by giving away free gun locks and safes.

“I’ve stood up here many times saying your vehicle is not a holster, don’t leave your gun in it,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.

Eight children in the Midlands have been shot in accidental shootings over the past two years because firearms were left unsecured in homes and cars, and Richland County officials say the injuries are preventable with proper storage…
