Monroe artist’s painting headed to national oil painters exhibition

Monroe artist David Larkins’ painting “Irene’s House of Beauty” has been selected for the 35th Oil Painters Society’s National Exhibition & Convention, according to a community announcement.

The exhibition will be held at the Steamboat Museum of Art in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, according to the announcement. Larkins’ painting was one of 210 chosen from more than 1,800 entries.

“Irene’s House of Beauty” is based on photographs Larkins took around 1978, capturing the rear of buildings along Front Street. The building, which was next to what is now RiverBank Wealth Management, was next to the former Steve’s Tavern.
