Restraining order called for against OK county jail trust chairman

A criminal justice nonprofit has filed an emergency application for a temporary restraining order against the financially troubled Oklahoma County jail trust and Chairman Jim Holman related to what it calls “unlawful and unauthorized actions in granting jail staff salary against the trust’s suspension of pay raises.

Neal Center for Justice Inc., 301 SW 23rd St., filed the request Monday, April 6, in Oklahoma County District Court. It was assigned to Judge Don Andrews. Trust member the Rev. Derrick Scobey had said he thought Holman’s action should be examined, but not criminally investigated.

The jail trust, formally the County Criminal Justice Authority, voted to suspend salary increases at its Jan. 12 meeting. However, Scobey told the Board of County Commissioners on March 11 that about 100 raises showed up for the jail’s February pay period, which began Jan. 21, days after the pay freeze was supposed to have gone into effect…
