KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Road work and traffic congestion are on the minds of state transportation officials ahead of the World Cup. MoDOT said it plans to reduce work on 14 of its more than 100 metro projects this summer. The agency will limit lane closures to accommodate more than 600,000 expected visitors.
One of the biggest projects involves a stretch of I-70 east of downtown. Crews are preparing to add a fourth lane eastbound from Prospect Avenue to the Manchester Avenue Bridge. MoDOT officials said they plan to keep three lanes open on match days.
