Beloved Sabroso Shutters St. Ann Spot, Bets Big on Maplewood Bar

Sabroso Cocina Mexicana is saying goodbye to its original St. Ann digs on April 11, with the owners confirming that the restaurant will serve its final meals at the Old Saint Charles Road spot before turning full attention to the newer Maplewood location, which will now act as the flagship while they explore a new home for St. Ann.

In a Facebook post, the owners said the closure stems from “the rising costs of goods and services and maintenance of the building,” according to St. Louis Magazine. Shared on March 31, the post also noted that the team would like to relocate within St. Ann down the line and urged fans to keep supporting the Maplewood spot in the meantime.

Owners Point to Limits at the Old Site

Chef Miguel Pintor and his wife, Brandin Maddock, launched Sabroso’s St. Ann restaurant in 2021 and expanded with a second storefront in Maplewood in summer 2024. That move gave them a full bar, a larger dining room and an outdoor patio, upgrades the original St. Ann space could not offer because of its proximity to a church, a restriction reported by St. Louis Magazine.
