Plane crashed minutes after takeoff from Spirit of St. Louis Airport, NTSB says

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – A cargo plane crashed just minutes after takeoff from the Spirit of St. Louis Airport last month and killed the pilot after an apparent attempt to return to the runway, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board.

On Tuesday, the NTSB released a preliminary report detailing the fatal overnight plane crash on March 17, 2026. Authorities identified the pilot as as Edward Ruhbeck, 65, of Spanish Lake. No other injuries were reported.
