Swansea WWII veteran receives France’s highest honor at 100 years old

SWANSEA, S.C. (WIS) – A World War II veteran was awarded France’s highest decoration for his service protecting European allies during the war.

Staff Sgt. Bruce Cook, 100, received the National Order of the French Legion of Honor from Anne-Laure Desjonqueres, consul general. The ceremony took place at Jim Hamilton Airport.

At 18 years old, Cook served as a ball turret gunner on a bomber aircraft. For 35 missions, he was tasked with protecting the air above European allies…
