Lake City firefighters recognized for 2025 capsized boat rescue

(WJET/WFXP)– Two members of Lake City Fire Company were recognized by the United States Coast Guard for their help in rescuing four people after their boat capsized roughly 8 miles off the shore of Walnut Creek Marina access in Fairview in August 2025.

Chief Tom Hosack and Crewman Tyler Youschak were awarded the Captain David P. Dobbins Award, which recognizes search and rescue efforts of anyone who exhibits heroic, life-saving efforts.

Four people rescued from Lake Erie after boat flipped

The award is meant to continue the legacy of Captain Dobbins, who was the first superintendent of the Great Lakes U.S. Lifesaving Service.
